Research Project: GEOCHEMICAL FACTORS INFLUENCING RESERVOIR SEDIMENT QUALITY

Location: Water Quality and Ecology Research

2003 Annual Report

4.What were the most significant accomplishments this past year?
D. Progress Report This report serves to document research conducted under a specific cooperative agreement between ARS and Ohio State University (Dr. Jerry Bigham). Additional details of research can be found in the report for the parent CRIS 6408-12130-012-00D, Processes, Control, and Prediction of Erosion and Runoff on Upland Areas in Agricultural Watersheds.

Geochemical Factors Influencing Reservoir Sediment Quality. Sediment cores from Grenada Lake have been characterized for a range of chemical contaminants that affect water quality. Additional research is underway to identify those chemical, physical, and mineralogical properties of sediment that determine the concentrations and mobility of the contaminants.
