                       Census Bureau to Brief Reporters on 
                         Census 2000 Supplementary Survey

What:  The Commerce Department's Census Bureau will hold a technical 
       briefing for the media to discuss and release on an embargoed basis
       the first results of the Census 2000 Supplementary Survey. The
       700,000 household survey was conducted simultaneously with last
       year's census. The survey is designed to test the operational
       feasibility of collecting long form-type data independently of a
       decennial census. The initial data cover demographic, economic and
       housing characteristics for the country, 50 states and the District
       of Columbia.
