Research Project: CANDIDATE GENES FOR FRUIT SOFTENING IN PRUNUS

Location: Kearneysville, West Virginia

Project Number: 1931-21000-017-04
Project Type: Reimbursable

Start Date: Apr 15, 2005
End Date: Apr 14, 2007

Objective:
Improve fruit quality of tree fruits.

Approach:
Isolate and sequence the endopolygalacturonase locus in peach. The sequence will be used to determine the number of genes at that loci and to create molecular markers for each gene. These markers will be used to examine the structure of that loci in peach cultivars with different softening characteristics as well as plum cultivars.
