Research Project:
IMPLEMENTATION OF A PRRSV STRAIN DATABASE
Location: Virus and Prion Diseases of Livestock
Project Number: 3625-32000-088-13
Project Type:
Specific Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Oct 01, 2007
End Date: Sep 30, 2008
Objective:
The objective of this cooperative research project is to assemble PRRSV nucleotide sequences from veterinary diagnostic laboratory field isolate submission data (University of Minnesota, South Dakota State University, Iowa State University and University of Hong Kong) and from other public domains (GenBank). After importation of the nucleotide sequences into the PRRSV Database [managed by the Center for Biomedical Research Informatics (CBIR) at the University of Minnesota], the sequences are analyzed and then published on the Internet (prrsv.ahc.umn.edu).
Approach:
1. Nucleotide sequences and their associated dates and places of isolation are downloaded to the PRRSV Database from individual veterinary laboratories (listed above) after key personnel training by the database manager (CBIR).
2. After submission, the ORF5 sequences that code for the PRRSV major attachment glycoprotein are reviewed and mined for relevant data (restriction fragment length polymorphisms, percent identity to available vaccines, predicted N-glycosylation, etc) by CBIR.
3. The nucleotide and associated amino acid sequences are then uploaded into the database for public use (CBIR).
