TWO SENTENCED IN CASE INVOLVING
FALSIFICATION OF TRUCK DRIVERS’ LOGS
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Office of Inspector General today announced the sentencing of two individuals in the U.S. District Court, Abington, Va., in a case involving the falsification of truck drivers’ logs.
William D. Cress, owner of R&B Express, Inc., a Virginia trucking company, was sentenced to three years in prison, followed by three years’ probation and a $50,000 fine. He previously pleaded guilty to a charge of conspiracy for systematically falsifying drivers’ logs to conceal violations of federal safety standards.
Also sentenced to a four-month term of home confinement, 32 months of probation, and a $5,000 fine was Linda Henderlite, an R&B Express employee. She had earlier pleaded guilty to falsifying drivers’ logs.
Federal truck driving regulations control how many consecutive hours drivers can safely and legally operate commercial trucks. Cress and Henderlite ordered the company’s logs falsified so it would appear drivers were complying with the law, when in fact they were not.
The case was investigated by the department’s Office of Inspector General, the Federal Highway Administration, and the Virginia State Police.
