Institute Hosts Two Compelling Conversations on Diversity in America
. To mark the opening of National Hispanic Heritage month, a panel of leaders from across the Hispanic community -- industry, the media, non-profits and policy-makers -- discussed the growing Hispanic demographic in America and what it means for our national dialogue. Watch.

According to Stanford University law professor Richard Thompson Ford, America's conversation about race is often overwhelmed by distractions. With Washington Post columnist Courtland Milloy, Ford discusses his newest book, "The Race Card: How Bluffing About Bias Makes Race Relations Worse." Milloy moderates a lively Q and A session. Watch. Summer 2008 at the Aspen Institute. The Ideas Festival set the standard for outstanding events all summer long. These included the McCloskey speaker series, a compelling visit from His Holiness the Dalai Lama, and special programs with leaders as diverse as King Abdullah II of Jordan and Senator John McCain. Better Teachers for Urban Schools. As part of an initiative on Rethinking Human Capital in Public Education, the Aspen Education and Society Program gathered 80 education leaders to consider urban teacher residencies, a new approach to preparing and retaining teachers. Read the report. Listen to the event (.mp3).


U.S.-Palestinian Partnership: Promoting Economic and Educational Opportunities for the Palestinian People. This innovative partnership was launched December 3, 2007 and its major activities include the May 2008 Palestinian Investment Conference in Bethlehem, which focused on attracting private sector investment in the Palestinian economy.
