The Interagency Working Group on Hydrogen and Fuel Cells was established shortly after President Bush announced the Hydrogen Fuel Initiative in early 2003. It serves as the key mechanism for collaboration among the Federal agencies involved in hydrogen-related research, development, and demonstration. As specified in Section 806 of the Energy Policy Act of 2005 (PL 109-58), the Working Group provides a forum for coordinating interagency policy, programs, and activities related to safe, economical, and environmentally sound hydrogen and fuel cell technologies.
The Working Group created an extensive hydrogen research taxonomy of past, present, and future hydrogen activities of the Federal government.
