Identification of Content Source
(Approved by the CIO Council - June 9, 2000)

Best Practice:

If the source of the content of a Web page of a Department of Commerce
organization is not the "Web site owner," the source of the content should be
identified.

Purpose:

The purpose of this Best Practice is to identify the source of the content when it is not the same as the Web site owner.

Example:

The DOC BIS Web site might include a Department of Justice press release about the work of Commerce/BIS Special Agents and White House press releases about encryption export control policy. In these situations it is a Best Practice to provide the source of the page content (e.g., the Department of Justice/the White House).
