Outreach Events Address Worker Rights for Spanish Language Workers in New OrleansNEW ORLEANS -- In an effort to educate Spanish speaking workers of their employment rights, the U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division, will conduct two New Orleans area compliance assistance outreach events. These outreach events, conducted by the Wage and Hour New Orleans District office, will provide valuable information to Hispanic workers who have come to the New Orleans area to help in the rebuilding efforts of the city and surrounding areas. The events are as follows: 1. Tuesday, Jan. 24, from 7:30 to 8 a.m. KGLA radio, a Spanish language radio station in the New Orleans area will host a community call-in program in which Wage and Hour staff will participate. Listeners are invited to call into the show with their questions. The call-in telephone numbers are 504-347-1540 or 504-347-8492. 2. Wednesday, Jan. 25, from 6 to 8 p.m., the New Orleans Wage and Hour Division and the Mexican Consulate from Houston will host a town hall meeting at the church of Saint Henry, 821 General Pershing St. in New Orleans. Wage and Hour staff will be present to explain worker rights in Spanish, answer questions, address complaints and provide worker rights hand-outs in Spanish.
