U.S. Labor Department Announces Back Wage Judgment Worth $15,800 for 17 Minnesota Workers

LORETTO, Minn. --

The U.S. Department of Labor today announced a consent judgment against Honda Electric Inc. resulting in payments of $15,800 for 17 workers. The judgment follows an investigation by the department’s Wage and Hour Division that uncovered violations of the overtime pay provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

The consent judgment was filed in U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota on behalf of the workers from Honda Electric Inc. in Loretto, Minn. The workers were owed the back wages as a result of overtime pay violations of the FLSA. Recovery of back wages followed filing of a lawsuit in federal district court, and the consent judgment resolved the complaint.

“This case involves workers who put in long hours on the job and deserve to be paid what the law demands,” said Jose L. Medina, district director for the Wage and Hour Division office in Minnesota. “Further, Honda Electric Inc. has assured us they will comply with the wage and hour requirements of the FLSA in the future. We have no reason to doubt its assurances, but we will not hesitate to take further action if follow-up investigations indicate non-compliance.”

The FLSA requires covered employees be paid the federal minimum wage for all hours worked and time and one-half their regular rate of pay for hours worked over 40 in a single week. Employers must also maintain accurate time and payroll records.

For more information about the FLSA, call the Department of Labor’s toll-free help line at 1 (866) 4US-WAGE (487-9243). Information is also available on the Internet at www.wagehour.dol.gov.
