Dynamic Message Sign Standards Usage by State
March 2005
This map depicts the use of Dynamic Message Sign (DMS) standards in
all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, as of March
2005. A text listing is also available.

DMS Status Legend:
- Green - Sufficient: The specification reviewed referenced the appropriate NTCIP standards and detailed the requirements sufficiently without redefining any of the NTCIP protocol.
- Yellow - Not NTCIP: The specification reviewed either does not reference NTCIP standards or it references NTCIP standards but imposes conflicting requirements that cause a fundamental change to the NTCIP protocol.
- Brown - Ambiguous: The specification reviewed referenced NTCIP standards but the reference is either cursory and does not define many needed details or introduces confusion by restating NTCIP design details.
- Colorless - No Procurement: No fixed DMS have been procured in the State.
