Role of workers' compensation in developing safer workplaces

The higher costs of providing workers' compensation benefits in risky occupations may lead employers to improve safety in order to lower their insurance costs. This article examines the effect of workers' compensation on safety and health, including specific arrangements by which Federal agencies are charged for the work injury liabilities of their employees.
