Transition: The Commerce Department’s
National Telecommunications and Information Administration
(NTIA) announced today that eight of the largest
consumer electronics retailers -- Best Buy, Circuit
City, Kmart, RadioShack, Sam's Club, Sears, Target,
Wal-Mart -- have been certified to participate
in the TV Converter Box Coupon Program along with
more than 100 other retailers, representing more
than 14,000 stores throughout the nation, and additional

At its third meeting, the Joint Committee’s informal

in Grants for First Responder Communications:
On Wednesday, July
18, 2007, U.S. Commerce Secretary Carlos M. Gutierrez
and U.S. Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Michael Chertoff
will announce the $968 million Public Safety Interoperable
Communications (PSIC) Grants to help state and local
first responders improve public safety communications
during a natural or man-made disaster for All 50 States,
the District of Columbia and

Commerce Department Report Encourages Commercial Technologies for First Responders:
The U.S. Department of Commerce's
National Telecommunications and Information Administration
(NTIA) in a report released today encourages the federal,
state and local public safety community to consider utilizing
commercial technologies in satisfying broadband interoperable
communications among first responders. Internet
Domain Name and Addressing System (DNS) Top Level Domain
for the United States (usTLD): The Department
of Commerce/ National Telecommunications and Information
Administration issued a "sources sought" notice
of an intention to procure centralized management and
coordination of registry, registrar (where specified),
database, and information services for the usTLD. The
notice requests interested parties to provide information
about their technical capability by June 22, 2007. Public
Safety Interoperable Communications Grant Program Public
Meeting, June 4, 2007: John M. R. Kneuer, Assistant
Secretary for Communications and Information, U.S. Department
Of Commerce, will welcome participants to this public
meeting, which will cover program policies, present
ways to avoid audit problems, and provide a question
