42 organizations are partners with EPA in the P3 competition and awards. P3 partners include government agencies, private companies, and non-governmental organizations. Academic institutions, due to their ability to compete for a P3 grant, are not eligible to become a P3 partner. As a partner, you are associated with a unique government program that:
- Promotes science and engineering education,
- Develops sustainable solutions for environmental concerns in the developed and developing world,
EPA expects that P3 partners will:
- Promote the P3 competition to their stakeholders, including any universities with whom they work. This can involve newsletters, Web sites, etc.
- Be involved with the peer review process to determine which Past P3 Projects should be funded. EPA gathers a committee of people with expertise in a variety of areas to review a set of related proposals. In the case of the P3 program, the categories include water, energy, materials and chemicals, the built environment, agriculture, ecosystems, and information technology. EPA also gathers reviewers who have a broad understanding of sustainability. The peer review panels generally meet in Washington, DC, for 2-3 days each year to discuss the proposals. Travel costs are covered by the EPA. In addition, each panel member will need to spend around 8 hours prior to coming to DC to review the proposals assigned to them for discussion.
- Set up and staff an exhibit (Applies to non-profit organizations and government agencies only. For-profit organizations may display only through invitation by co-sponsors.) to promote your organization's sustainability activities during the National Sustainable Design Expo featuring EPA's P3 competition on the National Mall.
- Establish an additional award given by your organization to further recognize the accomplishments of the P3 teams in an area of specific interest to your mission.
There is no cost associated with becoming a P3 partner. For more information, please contact Cynthia Nolt-Helms at (202) 343-9693 or nolt-helms.cynthia@epa.gov.
