Known as the FAMER, this report is an interactive web-based tool that lists job opportunities open to family members at post and reports the number of family members employed both inside and outside the Mission. The FAMER, which can only be accessed via the Family Liaison Office's Intranet web site, also serves as a research tool during the bidding season for family members interested in working. Professional Associates Program
The regular FS assignments process invariably leaves some overseas positions without sufficient qualified Foreign Service bidders. These positions are designated Hard-To-Fill (HTF) and are routinely opened to Department of State Civil Service employees and to EFMs. Applications for the most recent round of the Professional Associates (PA) program are no longer being accepted. Future rounds of PA / HTF will be announced by Department of State Cable. Copies of cables relating to the program can be obtained by emailing FLOAskEmployment@state.gov.
Training
Functional training is available for spouses interested in working inside the Mission. The Basic Consular Course is one of the functional training opportunities.
The Transition Center at the Foreign Service Institute (FSI) also offers classes designed to assist family members looking for work overseas.
