Commitment 1

Air Emissions
Emissions of Greenhouse Gases
All measurements should represent the performance level for the indicator across the entire facility. For many indicators, however, you may choose to focus your goal on a specific subset of the indicator, e.g. a specific material, a specific group of toxic air emissions, a particular waste component, a specific VOC, etc.All

(1) B4 Desiccant Dehumidifier Waste Heat Recovery Project
(2) B2 Data Center HVAC Project
(3) B4 DHM-1 Desiccant Wheel Removal Project
(4) B4 Waste Heat Recovery Heat Exchanger on the Catalytic Oxidizer
(5) Purchase of "Green Tags"

Yes

Explanation - This is part of our EMS under our Energy Objective.

Our goal is to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. In 2003, our CO2 emissions were 4,459 metric tons (MT) by virtue of our purchase of electricity (indirect), plus 3,381 MT by virtue of our purchase of natural gas (direct). We also purchased 1,530 MWh (1,365 MT CO2) of equivalent "green tags" in 2003. In 2006, our goal is to lower our Total CO2 Emissions, Less Offsets, to 6,395 metric tons. This represents a 30% reduction from 2001. We will do this by implementing projects that save energy, and by purchasing green tags to make up any shortfall from projects.

Commitment 2

Water Use
Total Water Use
All measurements should represent the performance level for the indicator across the entire facility. For many indicators, however, you may choose to focus your commitment on a specific subset of the indicator, e.g. a specific material, a specific group of toxic air emissions, a particular waste component, a specific VOC, etc.All

(1) Connect to the South Bay Recycled Water Program for irrigation.
(2) Install "C3" technology as a pilot for reducing irrigation water.
(3) Study the feasibility of technologies to reduce cooling tower blowdown.

Commitment 3

Material Procurement
Hazardous/Toxic Components
All measurements should represent the performance level for the indicator across the entire facility. For many indicators, however, you may choose to focus your commitment on a specific subset of the indicator, e.g. a specific material, a specific group of toxic air emissions, a particular waste component, a specific VOC, etc.Specific
Our goal is to eliminate PVC, DEHP and latex from our meter carrying cases. The cases are manufactured by a third-party, and are sold to us as a finished good. However, we write the specifications. We are requiring that the supplier make our cases from alternative materials, and that they complete analytical testing (where applicable) to document the removal of these compounds.

We are implementing a re-design of our meter cases across all product lines. We expect to eliminate PVC, DEHP and latex from the cases across the entirety of all product lines.

All measurements should represent the performance level for the indicator across the entire facility. For many indicators, however, you may choose to focus your commitment on a specific subset of the indicator, e.g. a specific material, a specific group of toxic air emissions, a particular waste component, a specific VOC, etc.All

(1) Modify our production process such that OneTouch Basic/Profile A dip no longer fails the RCRA toxicity characteristic.
(2) Implement procedural changes to control SureStep raw material batch size such that the amount of waste produced is less.
(3) Ensure blood glucose meters (without fixed batteries) are recycled instead of incinerated.
