Site continues to move from manufacturing facility toward more of a Corporate headquarters. It is suspected that all manufacturing will end at the site in the next couple of years. Thus, the environmental impacts associated with maintenance of the buildings and administrative functions are becoming more important. That said, at present we conduct the following: (1) manfuacture of two blood glucose test strips - OneTouch Basic/Profile & OneTouch SureStep, R&D, Customer Service, Purchasing, site Facilities, and additional LifeScan Corporate administrative functions, meters are outsourced to a contract manufacturer,
(2) total of 500,000 square feet {four owned buildings and one leased building} and 1468 employees, contractors and temps,
(3) We recently closed a leased warehouse operation, but other activities remain per our 2004 renewal application.
(4) None

Commitment 1

Material Procurement
Recycled Content
All measurements should represent the performance level for the indicator across the entire facility. For many indicators, however, you may choose to focus your commitment on a specific subset of the indicator, e.g. a specific material, a specific group of toxic air emissions, a particular waste component, a specific VOC, etc. Specific
This commitment is to track and to increase the amount of paper packaging with recycled content. The goal will be normalized by the amount, by weight, of total paper packaging purchased.
Convert virgin stock paper packaging to packaging with recycled content.

Alternate Commitment
LEED certification for green buildings - site proposes reaching "certified" level by end of renewal period.
Site continues to move from manufacturing facility toward more of a Corporate headquarters. It is suspected that all manufacturing will end at the site in the next couple of years. Thus, the environmental impacts associated with maintenance of the buildings and administrative functions are becoming more important. Site is focusing on building issues like green cleaning, biodegrable cafeteria utinsels, plates, etc., environmentally preferable carpeting, and environmentally preferable paints.
Develop standards and install preferable carpet.
Switch to green janitorial products and bathroom products.
Investigate switching to biodegradable cafeteria items.
Continue water and energy reduction projects.
Develop a commuting program.
Credits (points) obtained under the Green Building Council's LEED-EB program.
