Womens Bureau Director Named Outstanding Korean American
WASHINGTON At its closing ceremony tonight, Womens
Bureau Director Shinae Chun was named one of the 102 Outstanding Korean
Americans by the Centennial Committee of Korean Immigration.
The dinner
gala, held at the historic Waldorf Astoria hotel, honored 102 Korean Americans,
representative of the number of Korean pioneers who originally landed in Hawaii
one hundred years ago. I am honored to be included in this list of
distinguished Korean Americans, said Chun.
I am grateful to
Secretary Elaine L. Chao and President George W. Bush for appointing me to my
current position, which has afforded me the opportunity to affect change in the
lives of so many working women.
The gala included both musical
and oratorical performances. Director Chun was one of 5 speakers, offering a
presentation entitled The Great Migration. JuJu Chang of ABC News
and Michael Kim, ESPN SportsCenter anchor, emceed the event, which also
featured speakers New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg (R), Governor George Pataki
(R-NY), and Senator Charles Schumer (D-NY).
