Alabama in Focus: Census Bureau Pre-Primary Snapshot
About 63 percent of Alabama’s voting-age citizens cast a ballot in the 2004 general election, not significantly different from the national rate of 64 percent.
As one of the 24 states holding “Super Tuesday” presidential primary and caucus sites on Feb. 5, Alabama’s 2007 population of 4.6 million includes a percentage of the black population that is more than double the national average and a higher percentage of the non-Hispanic white-alone population, according to the U.S. Census Bureau statistics.
