Delaware in Focus: Census Bureau Pre-Primary Snapshot
As one of the 24 states holding a “Super Tuesday” presidential primary or caucus, Delaware is the nation’s 10th fastest-growing state. Its 2007 population of about 865,000 grew by 10.4 percent between 2000 and 2007. The U.S. population grew by 7.2 percent during that same period.
Delaware has a higher percentage of non-Hispanic whites, a higher percentage of blacks and a higher median household income than the nation as a whole, according to U.S. Census Bureau statistics.
Delaware’s primary is
Feb. 5. About 66 percent of Delaware’s voting-age citizens cast a ballot
in the 2004 general election, which was slightly higher than the national
figure of 64 percent. More information can be found at Voting and Registration
