building roof design

Energy efficiency is a priority throughout EPA's Research Triangle Park campus, and is a national EPA priority. Designed to use about a third less energy than comparable facilities, the EPA-RTP campus uses a combination of solar power, high performance windows and roofs, passive solar design, high efficiency equipment, variable speed motors, reflective roofs, use of day light, occupancy controls and many other measures.

The EPA campus uses continuous commissioning to ensure peak energy performance. Through commissioning, EPA has been able to identify and correct many problems that can degrade energy performance in the long term. After initial commissioning, EPA has also used a process of re-commissioning to ensure that buildings continue to operate efficiently.

The US Department of Energy has highlighted the campus on its "high performance buildings" website.
