Counties with most rapid growth in employment, December 2002-December 2003

In December 2003, Clark County, Nevada, and Loudoun County, Virginia, had the biggest over-the-year percentage increases in employment among the largest counties in the U.S.

Clark and Loudoun counties experienced over-the-year employment gains of 5.2 percent each, compared with zero job growth in the nation.

Prince William County, Virginia, had the next largest increase, 5.1 percent, followed by the counties of Rutherford, Tennessee (4.6 percent), and Hidalgo, Texas (4.4 percent).

The BLS Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages program produced these data, which are preliminary and subject to revision. Employment data presented here are for all workers covered by State and Federal unemployment insurance programs. The largest counties are those with employment levels of 75,000 or more—there are 315 such counties.
