L. 92-463), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announces the following committee meetings. Name: CDC Advisory Committee on HIV and STD Prevention (CDC ACHSP). Purpose: This committee is charged with advising the Director, CDC, regarding objectives, strategies, and priorities for HIV and STD prevention efforts including maintaining surveillance of HIV infection, AIDS, and STDs, the epidemiologic and laboratory study of HIV/AIDS and STDs, information/education and risk reduction activities designed to prevent the spread of HIV and STDs, and other preventive measures that become available. Matters to be Discussed: Agenda items will include discussions regarding building HIV prevention capacity in racial/ethnic minority communities; issues pertaining to integration of HIV/STD prevention efforts; and enhancing communication strategies between CDC and its partners. Purpose: The joint CDC ACHSP/HICPAC committees will discuss CDC recommendations relevant to health care workers (HCW) infected with HIV or other bloodborne pathogens. A working group report, from the February 11, 1998 meeting, will be presented that will include a list of options, with the ``pros'' and ``cons'' for each option, regarding recommendations for existing infected HCW guidelines. Matters to be Discussed: The Committees will review relevant scientific information gathered since the implementation of the 1991 CDC recommendations; discuss the implications of this updated information vis-a-vis the potential revision of the 1991 recommendations; and advise CDC regarding current HIV-infected HCW recommendations. Matters to be Discussed: Agenda items will include a review of the strategic direction of HICPAC; the third draft of the Guideline for Prevention of Surgical Site Infections; priority areas for HICPAC/CDC guideline development; and CDC activities of interest to the Committee.
