SECTION C: ENVIRONMENTAL PERFORMANCE RESULTS

Goal 1: Pinewood Cove Resort's first goal is to reduce the facility's total (non-transportation) energy use.

Pinewood Cove Resort added more photoelectric and motion sensor lighting. All new appliances are energy star approved. Since 2004 we have added 3 cabin sites and have reduced primitive campsites by 3. This has increased our electrical usage even though our visitation has decreased over the last 3 years. Propane usage has decreased and electricity has increased because the electrical generator did not run as much as in previous years.

We have added motion sensors and timed lighting in bathrooms and cabins. We also added a energy star air conditioner in the retail store. Energy data will be up because of an extremely cold winter in 2006.
Pinewood Cove Resort has implemented procedures in which all new appliances will be enegy star approved. All lighting will be switched out to flourescent or halogen lighting. Where possible motion sensors, photoelectric cells and solar lighting will be used. Delays this year were attributed to the addition of four cabins which increased propane usage from previous years.WECC California is our subregion.

Data collection is from monthly billing from Trinity public utilities (elec) and Campora (propane). These are the only energy sources used on property.

Goal 2: Pinewood Cove Resort's second goal is to improve the management of the facility's non-hazardous waste.

Pinewood Cove Resort increased collection sites for recycling and did a total refurbishment of their dock systems. The old dock was made from materials which were not readily recylable. The new dock is 100% recyclable. 5,536 sg ft of marina dock was dismantaled and taken to landfill.(6.89 tons) Styrofoam of 2084 lineal ft(5.75 tons) was also taken to landfill. In our region (Northern California) their was not a way to recycle these amounts of materials. Demolition waste totals are included in waste total for year. We contact our vendors and ask them to review their packaging policies. Customers are also informed prior to arrival on packaging and recycling procedures.

We have added recycling collection points at the cabins to help increase the amount of recyclabes collected. We have also started collection of cardboard to help reduce the amount of waste tolandfill. We have had to change the procedure for collecting recyclables due to unsafe conditions. We plan to add recycling collection points throughout the resort to aid in the collection of recyclables.
Pinewood Cove Resorts has implemented a procedure for the recycling of scrap metal which has reduced the amount sent to land fill. We have also increased the collection points for customers and employees to help increase our amount of recycled material. In 2004 a property wide clean up of a boneyard area was completed. This was the first off season that we had at that location. Large amounts of recyclables (Wood and Scrap metal)were not recycled and went to landfill. In 2005 a large reduction in clean up was needed. In future years a large amount of scrap metal may sent to recyclers. Pounds is our recycling unit and tons is our landfill units.

Data collection is from Trinity county solid waste monthly billing. Invoices units were cubic yards and converted to tonnage. Recycling amounts were from Trinity Recycling and reported in pounds.Conversions from cubic yards to tons ( 1 cubic yd = 100 lbs, 1 ton = 2000 lbs) Please change goal to a "combination of both strategies. 2004 was a "clean up year" as it was under previous ownership in 2003 It had many items that were never thrown away over the years and we sent it out in 40 yd dumpsters.
