SECTION C: ENVIRONMENTAL PERFORMANCE RESULTS

C.1 COMMITMENT 1

Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control's first commitment is to reduce the facility's generation of hazardous waste, specifically waste water treatment sludge.

A Sludge Dryer was installed in the waste water treatment area to dry the sludge cakes dumped from the filter press dewatering operation. This unit has proven effective by reducing the weight of the sludge disposed of from this operation.
This goal was achieved the first year and results will continue to be monitored and reported each year. The Sludge dryer opertation reduced the weight of sludge disposed of by about 60%.

C.2 COMMITMENT 2

Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control's second commitment is to improve the management of the facility's non-hazardous waste.

To date success in this area can be attributed to better communication and awareness by all departments of waste reduction efforts. It is part of the company's goals under ISO14001 to be a good steward, to recycle, reduce, and protect the environment.

C.3 COMMITMENT 3

Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control's third commitment is to reduce the facility's total (non-transportation) energy use.

Facilities Department installed high efficiency light fixtures in the warehouse area and breakroom at one facility. The plant air system had all leaks repaired and a 50 hp air compressor installed to hold a lower line pressure at night and on week ends. The three 200 hp compressors are only operated during production hours when higher line pressure is needed. Three heating boilers fueled by natural gas were replaced with more modern energy efficient HVAC systems.
Note: The increase in normalized energy use for 2005 may be attributed to more hours worked in the PAC-3 Facility, relative to total production hours. PAC-3 uses very large, energy intensive HVAC systems to maintain critical temperature/humidity conditions both in the main complex and in two large coating booths.

C.4 COMMITMENT 4

Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control's fourth commitment is to reduce the facility's hazardous materials use, specifically MEK solvent.

This commitment was contingent upon customer approval of the process. The coating operation is very sensitive to impurities so as a result, this is still an on-going effort to get distilled solvent approved for use.
Re-work operations in 2005 caused close to 50% of products to be re-coated causing increased usage of MEK.
The normalizing factor for this commitment is different from the other three because the use of mek solvent is directly related to the number of missiles coated or re-worked.

In the table below, please provide a narrative summary of progress made toward EMS objectives and targets other than those reported as Environmental Performance Commitments. You may limit the summary to environmental aspects that are significant and towards which progress has been made during the reporting year.

Do you have additional environmental aspects to report?   Yes

(e.g., quantitative or qualitative improvements, activities conducted)
Reduce Hazardous waste disposal by 5%. A chemical management team was established to examine issues such as excessive purchases of virgin products which is uneccessarily adding to our hazardous waste for disposal.
