Description:

The publication fulfills part of a recent Congressional directive to DHHS, including the development of recommendations for the education of students of U.S. schools of medicine and osteopathic medicine regarding female genital mutilation and complications arising from such practices, and to disseminate this information to such schools. Female circumcision/female genital mutilation (FC/FGM) is a term used for a number of different cultural practices involving physical alteration of the external female genitalia. It is widely practiced in certain parts of Africa, as well as some parts of Southeast Asia
