Performance Track Results: Non-Transportation Energy Use

Graph for energy use

  • From 2000-2006, Performance Track members that set goals for energy use decreased their use of energy by a cumulative total of 4,257,059 MMBtu. See the data table for details.

  • If the members had instead continued with business as usual, they would have increased their use of energy by a cumulative total of 42,783,767 MMBtu over the three years.

  • This indicator captures the sum of energy use that is generated on-site and the energy use that is generated off-site (purchased electricity and steam). For on-site generation, facilities report the input of the generation process. For energy that is generated off-site, facilities report the output of the generation process (e.g., the energy use reported on an electric utility bill). As a result, on-site energy use takes into account generation loss, while off-site energy use does not.

  • Goals to increase the use of renewable energy were not included in the analysis, as total energy use was not projected to change under those goals.

  • EPA's Office of Air and Radiation has created an energy use reduction challenge goal for non-transportation energy use. To learn about the challenge goals available in each EPA region and how many facilities have adopted challenge goals, please visit the challenge goals page in the Results section of this site.

  • See the Notes on the Results for notes, caveats, and additional information on interpreting the results and graphs presented here.
