State, Metro Area Data Book Touts Nevada as Population
Magnet, Atlanta Area's Climb to Top 10

More than 3-in-4 people in Nevada in 2003 were born outside the state, while nearly 8-in-10 Louisiana residents were born in that state, according to the 2006 edition of the U.S. Census Bureau’s State and Metropolitan Area Data Book.

Advance tables from the publication are now available on the Internet at <http://www.census.gov/compendia/smadb>.

More information, including ranking tables, will be made available in both Internet and printed versions of the book later this summer.

In addition to information for the states, the data released on the Internet chronicles metropolitan area information, such as Atlanta’s ascent from 11th to ninth place as the nation’s most populous metro area between 2000 and 2005.

The data book is a collection of statistics on social and economic conditions in the United States at the state and metropolitan area levels. The book is also a guide to sources of other data from the Census Bureau, other federal agencies and private organizations.
