            U.S. Census Bureau Centennial Celebration

What:  The U.S. Census Bureau will commemorate its 100th birthday with a
       ceremony and reception on Wednesday, March 6. It was 100 years ago 
       on that date that Congress enacted legislation establishing a 
       permanent "Census Office."

Who:   Kathleen B. Cooper, Commerce under secretary for economic affairs
       William G. Barron Jr., acting Census Bureau director 
       Vincent Barabba, former Census Bureau director (1973-76; 1979-81), 
         keynote speaker
       Barbara Everitt Bryant, former Census Bureau director (1989-93);
       Martha Farnsworth Riche, former Census Bureau director (1994-98).
       
When:  Wednesday, March 6; 2 p.m. EST

Where: Morris Hansen Auditorium, Federal Office Building 3

       Suitland, Maryland
