                  **CENSUS BUREAU MEDIA ADVISORY**

Census Bureau to Brief Reporters on
Local Census 2000 Supplementary Survey Results

What: The Census Bureau's Seattle Regional Office will brief media on
new Census 2000 Supplementary Survey (C2SS) data on demographic,
economic, social and housing characteristics for cities and
counties of 250,000 population or more. These data, including
those for the Spokane, Wash., Metropolitan Statistical Area, will
illustrate characteristics, such as education, language spoken at
home, household income, poverty and travel time to work. The
700,000-household survey was conducted simultaneously with last
year's census and was designed to test the operational
feasibility of collecting long form-type data independently of a
         decennial census.

When: Wednesday, Nov. 14, at 1 p.m. PST

Who: Moises Carrasco, Seattle regional director
Charles H. Alexander, assistant division chief,

         U.S. Census Bureau
