Census Bureau Releases First Printed Report from Census 2000

The Census Bureau, which has released electronically more statistics
from Census 2000 than from any previous census, today issued its first
printed statistical report, with summary data from the Census 2000
short-form questionnaire for the state of Delaware.

The data on age, sex, race, Hispanic or Latino origin, household
relationship and tenure (whether a housing unit is owned or rented) are
shown for the state, counties, county subdivisions, places and American
Indian and Alaska Native areas. The statistical tables include land
measurement and population density per square mile for each geographic
entity.

The new series, Summary Population and Housing Characteristics (PHC-1)[PDF],
consists of separate volumes for each state, the District of Columbia,
Puerto Rico and the United States. The reports in this series will be
released, on a flow basis, through November.

The U.S. summary report contains summary data for the nation, regions,
divisions, states, metropolitan areas, urbanized areas, places of 100,000
or more population, American Indian and Alaska Native areas and Hawaiian
homelands.

The PHC-1 reports, the first of five Census 2000 printed report series
planned by the Census Bureau, may be purchased from the Government
Printing Office (telephone: 202-512-1800; fax: 202-512-2250; Internet:
http://www.gpo.gov). To obtain GPO stock numbers and price, contact
the Census Bureau's Customer Services Center (telephone: 301-763-INFO;
fax: 301-457-4714; and e-mail: webmaster@census.gov).

The PHC-1 series is similar to the 1990 census' CPH-1 series. The
reports also are posted in PDF format on the Census Bureau's Internet site
http://www.census.gov.
