Washington in Focus: Census Bureau Pre-Caucus Snapshot
Washington, which is holding Republican and Democratic caucuses on Feb. 9, had a 2007 population of 6.5 million that includes a higher percentage of Asians and a lower percentage of blacks and Hispanics than the nation as a whole, according to U.S. Census Bureau statistics. About 68 percent of Washington’s voting-age citizens cast a ballot in the 2004 general election, above the national rate of 64 percent.
