Maryland
in Focus: Census Bureau Pre-Primary Snapshot
Maryland, which is holding primaries on Feb. 12, had a 2007 population of 5.6 million that includes a higher percentage of blacks, a lower percentage of non-Hispanic whites and a lower percentage of Hispanics than the nation as a whole, according to U.S. Census Bureau statistics. About 66 percent of Maryland’s voting-age citizens cast a ballot in the 2004 general election, not significantly different from the national rate of 64 percent.
