Louisiana
in Focus: Census Bureau Pre-Caucus/Primary Snapshot
Louisiana, which is holding a Democratic primary and Republican caucus on Feb. 9, had a 2007 population of 4.3 million that includes a lower percentage of non-Hispanic whites and a higher percentage of blacks than the nation as a whole, according to U.S. Census Bureau statistics. About 64 percent of Louisiana’s voting-age citizens cast a ballot in the 2004 general election, the same as the overall national rate.
