Calendar Year 2007 Seasonal Factors: Seasonal factors for CY 2007 and the revised historical series for CY 2002-2006 for both initial claims and continued claims will be made available on March 29, 2007, with the release of the Unemployment Insurance Weekly Claims Report. UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE WEEKLY CLAIMS REPORT SEASONALLY ADJUSTED DATA The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.9 percent for the week ending March 10, a decrease of 0.1 percentage point from the prior week's unrevised rate of 2.0 percent. The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending March 10 was 2,501,000, a decrease of 69,000 from the preceding week's revised level of 2,570,000. The 4-week moving average was 2,555,750, a decrease of 1,250 from the preceding week's revised average of 2,557,000.
The advance number of actual initial claims under state programs, unadjusted, totaled 274,263 in the week ending March 17, a decrease of 24,543 from the previous week. There were 269,237 initial claims in the comparable week in 2006. The advance unadjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.2 percent during the
week ending March 10, a decrease of 0.1 percentage point from the prior week. The advance unadjusted
number for persons claiming UI benefits in state programs totaled 2,875,899,
a decrease of 140,971 from the preceding week. A year earlier, the rate was
2.2 percent and the volume was 2,840,272. Extended benefits were not available in any state during the week ending March 3. Initial claims for UI benefits by former Federal civilian employees totaled 1,051 in the week ending March 10, an increase of 75 from the prior week. There were 1,806 initial claims by newly discharged veterans, a decrease of 8 from the preceding week. There were 18,345 former Federal civilian employees claiming UI benefits for the week ending March 3, an increase of 2,723 from the previous week. Newly discharged veterans claiming benefits totaled 24,049, a decrease of 116 from the prior week. The highest insured unemployment rates in the week ending March 3 were in Alaska (5.2 percent), Michigan (4.6), Pennsylvania (3.9), Wisconsin (3.8), Rhode Island (3.7), New Jersey (3.4), Massachusetts (3.3), Puerto Rico (3.3), Vermont (3.3), Connecticut (3.0), Minnesota (3.0), Montana (3.0), and Oregon (3.0). The largest increases in initial claims for the week ending March 10 were in Texas (+2,837), North Carolina (+2,642), Wisconsin (+1,444), Pennsylvania (+1,003), and Minnesota (+950), while the largest decreases were in New York (-10,766), Michigan (-8,039), California (-3,181), Kansas (-1,794), and Illinois (-1,791).
