American Community Survey
2007 American Community Survey Characteristics Data — On Sept. 23, the Census Bureau will release 2007 data on social, economic, housing and demographic characteristics. These data cover topics ranging from language to education, from family size to work commute, and are available for more than 7,000 areas, including all congressional districts as well as counties, cities, metro areas and American Indian and Alaska Native areas of 65,000 population or more. Special population profiles and Public Use Microdata Sample data will also be released. Data will also be available from the Puerto Rico Community Survey. (Data will be embargoed to the media on Sept. 18.)
Demographic
School Enrollment: 2006 — Are more students attending college? What region of the country has the most high school dropouts? This report on school enrollment levels and trends in the population 3 and older is based on data collected in 2006 from the American Community Survey and the Current Population Survey. (Tentatively scheduled for release in late September.)
Profiles of Older Workers: 2004 — The Census Bureau, in partnership with 31 states, has launched a series of reports on workers 55 and older. The Oregon and New Mexico reports are expected to be released in late September. Previously released reports are available at <http://lehd.did.census.gov/led/library/profiles_2007.html>.
American Housing Survey: 2007 — How many homes across the country have fireplaces? How many have dishwashers or smoke detectors? How many have bars on the windows? This household survey asks questions about the quality of housing in the United States. (Tentatively scheduled for release in late September.)
Economic
2008 Capital Spending Report: U.S. Capital Spending Patterns, 1999-2006 — A look at capital expenditure patterns from 1999 to 2006 reveals data about firms with and without employees, expenditures for structures and equipment, and expenditures for major industry sectors. The data comes from the Annual Capital Expenditures Survey. (Tentatively scheduled for release in late September.)
Consolidated Federal Funds Report: 2007 and Federal Aid to States for Fiscal Year 2007 — These two reports provide an overview of federal spending at the national, state and county levels. The data are obtained from federal agencies and describe spending for procurement contracts, salaries and wages, direct payments, loans and insurance, as well as federal grants to state and local governments. (Tentatively scheduled for release in early October.)
Facts for Features
Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 27) — Dig in to this feast of economic and demographic statistics pertaining to the menu of culinary delights consumed on Turkey Day. (Tentatively scheduled for release in early October.)
American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month (November) — Presidents have signed proclamations to honor the nation’s 4.5 million American Indian and Alaska Natives each year at this time. This group is younger and has larger families than the national population. (Tentatively scheduled for release in October.)
Veterans Day (Nov. 11) — Parades and speeches across the country, as well as a national ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery, highlight this federal holiday. Some of the statistics from this day include the number of veterans in the country, their racial and ethnic backgrounds, and the number who vote. (Tentatively scheduled for release in October.)

Profile America and Al Día (Spanish) — Profile America is a daily, 60-second feature that uses interesting vignettes from key events, observances or commemorations for that day to highlight information collected by the Census Bureau. Upcoming segments include “Monday Night Football,” dealing with the debut of weeknight pro football 30 years ago (Sept. 21), and “German-American Day,” a time to celebrate German heritage (Oct. 6). Census Data and Emergency Preparedness — Sept. 12 — Millions from Alabama to Texas could feel the effects of Hurricane Ike. As the 2008 hurricane season progresses, the Census Bureau will continue to post information on its Hurricane Data and Emergency Preparedness Web page at <http://www.census.gov/Press-Release/www/emergencies/index.html>.
Profiles of Older Workers: 2004 — Sept. 8 — The Census Bureau, in partnership with 31 states, has launched a series of reports on workers 55 and older. Montana’s report is the latest release. Previously released reports are available at <http://lehd.did.census.gov/led/library/profiles_2007.html>.
Census Data and Emergency Preparedness — Sept. 5 — The Census Bureau calculated that more than 40 million people in 192 counties along the Eastern Seaboard could feel the effects of the Tropical Storm Hanna.

Geographical Mobility: 2007 — Sept. 4 — Nearly 39 million people moved in the United States in 2007, with 25 million of them staying in the same county. The tables include data on why people moved, types of moves, distance moved and the characteristics of those who moved. Census Data and Emergency Preparedness — Sept. 2 — Hurricane Gustav affected more than 2 million people in the coastal counties of Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi as it made landfall on the Gulf Coast. The Census Bureau has updated its emergency preparedness page to highlight data for the 13 coastal counties of Louisiana, including housing, workforce and business data.

Facts for Features
