Demographic Surveys
Current Population Survey Design and Methodology (Technical Paper No. 66) — The CPS — sponsored jointly by the Census Bureau and Bureau of Labor Statistics — is the country’s primary source of labor force statistics. This document describes changes made to the survey since 2000. (Tentatively scheduled for release early-October.)
America Speaks: A Demographic Profile of Foreign-Language Speakers for the United States: 2000 — National- and state-level data on who speaks English and does not, broken down by type of household, age of householder, education attainment and income. (Tentatively scheduled for release late-October.)
Educational Attainment and School Enrollment: 2000 — These detailed tables — about 1,200 in all —
provide data in greater detail than other Census 2000 products. Tables for 15
race groups and each of the states cover subjects that include the education
of native- and foreign-born residents by age, education by labor force status,
earnings by education level, school enrollment by age and characteristics of
adults enrolled in school. (Tentatively scheduled for release early-October.)
American Community Survey
2005 American Community Survey Data (household characteristics)
— The latest data show types of homes, median value, heating fuel used,
plumbing facilities and more for nearly 7,000 areas, including all congressional
districts and counties, cities and American Indian/Alaska Native areas of 65,000
population or more. Additional subjects include means of transportation to work
by workplace geography, geographic mobility by selected characteristics, characteristics
of households and families, grandparents and the foreign-born population. (Scheduled
for release Oct. 3.)
Facts for Features
Veterans Day (Nov. 11) — Statistics from the Census Bureau’s demographic subject area are compiled relating to the national holiday honoring our military veterans. Parades and speeches occur across the country, highlighted by a national ceremony taking place at the Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington National Cemetery. (Tentatively scheduled for release early-October.)
Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 23) — Gobble, gobble! Economic and demographic statistics pertaining to the menu of culinary delights consumed on Turkey Day. (Tentatively scheduled for release early-October.)
