Demographic Surveys

Consumer Expenditure Survey Data Collection — Information about how much Americans spend on items ranging from gasoline to groceries will be collected starting in July from about 7,000 randomly selected households across the country. (Tentatively scheduled for release late-June.)

Custodial Mothers and Fathers and Their Child Support: 2003 — This report shows national level 10-year trends of child-support income received by parents with children whose other parent lives elsewhere. It also examines other support the children received, such as health insurance and noncash assistance. (Tentatively scheduled for release mid-July.)

Financing the Future: 2001-2002 — The number of dollars going to scholars is the focus of these tabulations. They provide data on the demographic and socioeconomic characteristics of college students and the costs and financing associated with their schooling during the 2001-2002 academic year. (Tentatively scheduled for release mid-July.)

2002 Economic Census

Survey of Business Owners: Native Hawaiian- and Other Pacific Islander-Owned Firms: 2002 — Report on the state of these businesses from a survey conducted every five years. Statistics are shown separately for businesses with and without paid employees. The report includes data on sales and receipts for the nation, states and local areas with 100 or more Native Hawaiian- and other Pacific Islander-owned businesses. Also, data on business ownership for major, individual Pacific Islander groups are included. Due to limitations, publication of data will be withheld for many levels of geography. (Scheduled for release June 28 at 4:00 p.m. EDT.)

Facts for Features

Back to School — Although most students have just started their summer vacation, the Census Bureau is already looking ahead to the opening of the new school year. This factsheet presents statistics from the Census Bureau’s demographic and economic subject areas pertaining to teachers, students and the reopening of our country’s schools. (Tentatively scheduled for release late-June.)

Labor Day — The first Labor Day observance was in 1882, and Congress made it a federal holiday in 1894. The Census Bureau spotlights our nation’s workforce through this array of data and statistics from our demographic subject area. (Tentatively scheduled for release early-July.)

Grandparents Day — Data from the Census Bureau’s demographic subject area highlighting these unsung role models and caregivers. (Tentatively scheduled for release early-July.)

Hispanic Heritage Month — In celebration of the culture and traditions of U.S. residents who trace their roots to Spanish-speaking nations, the Census Bureau presents data from its demographic and economic subject areas pertaining to the nation’s Hispanic population. (Tentatively scheduled for release mid-July.)
