Race and Hispanic-Origin Releases

Estimates of U.S. Population by Age, Sex, Race and Hispanic Origin: July 1, 2002 — New race and Hispanic-origin population estimates for July 1, 2002; includes comparable estimates for 2001 and 2000. (Scheduled for release on June 18.)

The Hispanic Population in the United States: March 2002 — Report and tables from the March 2000 Current Population Survey on the Hispanic-origin population by age, marital status, family type and size, education, occupation, income, poverty and housing. Also comparable national data for non-Hispanic whites, as well as for various Hispanic groups. (Scheduled for release on June 18.)

Hispanic Population Growth — A video news release supporting the announcement of new Census Bureau population estimates by race and Hispanic origin. The package includes sound bites from Census Bureau Director Louis Kincannon, plus B-roll and graphics to illustrate TV news stories. A companion multimedia page will provide online review and downloading options for video and audio files, stock photos and links to population estimates tables. Click on "National Population Estimates VNR" under the "Newsroom" heading for ordering options on the Census Bureau homepage beginning June 18.

Census-Related

Population and Housing Unit Counts (PHC-3) — Census 2000 and historical comparisons of the 100-percent population and housing unit counts for each state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the United States. Also, land and water area measurements, and population density. User notes document geographic changes over the past decade. This series is similar to the 1990 census series CPH-2. To be released by state on a flow basis beginning June 11.

Census 2000 Summary File 4 (SF4) — A total of 323 summary tables of social, economic and housing characteristics for up to 336 population groups: total population, 132 race groups, 78 American Indian and Alaska native categories (reflecting 39 individual tribes); 39 Hispanic or Latino groups and 86 ancestry groups. SF4 contains sample data for population and housing items such as language and ability to speak English; ancestry; educational attainment; number of rooms; heating fuel; value of home and monthly rent. To be released by state through September. (Scheduled for release on June 18: California, Florida, Michigan; and on June 25: Iowa, Maryland, Maine and Oregon.)

Census 2000 Brief: Employment Status: 2000 — Census 2000 data on employment status of people 16 and over, including labor force growth, participation rates and employment differences among regions, states, counties and places with populations of 100,000 or more. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of June 22.)


Non-Census

Facts for Features: The Fourth of July — Statistical information from the Census Bureau's demographic and economic subject areas related to the celebration of July 4th. Similar Facts for Features commemorate other events and holidays through the year. (Scheduled for release on June 20.)

American Housing Survey for Selected Metropolitan Areas in 2002 — Microdata for 13 metropolitan areas available through the Federal Electronic Research and Review Extraction Tool (FERRET) at <http://ferret.bls.census.gov/cgi-bing/ferret>. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of June 22.)

Supplemental Security Income and Its Noninstitutional Recipients: July 1997 and 1999 — Information about who receives SSI benefits, how much they receive and other demographic characteristics. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of June 22.)

American Housing Survey for Selected Metro Areas in 2002 — First statistics from this survey for 13 metropolitan areas covering topics related to journey to work, e.g., travel time to work and topics on housing, e.g., presence of air-conditioning. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of June 22.)

Estimates of State Population by Age, Sex, Race and Hispanic Origin: July 1, 2002 — State-level population estimates of people with these demographic characteristics. First such estimates since Census 2000. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of July 6.)

2002 Subcounty Population Estimates — First tabulations since Census 2000 of cities, towns, villages and boroughs. Includes ranking of cities of 100,000 or more population; cities with 10,000 or more residents are ranked within their state. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of July 6.)

2002 Housing Unit Estimates First update since Census 2000 on the nation's housing supply, with estimates for states and counties. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of July 13.)

Moving to America - Moving to Homeownership: 1994-2002 — Information on homeownership by citizenship, race and ethnicity, region and year of entry into the United States, from 1994 to 2002. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of July 13.)


Economic

22001 Metropolitan Business Patterns — Data for metropolitan areas on number of establishments, employment and annual payroll, for industry categories such as utilities, manufacturing, retail sales, finance and insurance. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of June 15.)

Radio

The Profile America CD for July 2003 is in distribution. This series of 60-second features, one for each day of the month, is heard on more than 500 stations across the country, and around the world on Armed Forces Radio. Each feature is keyed to an event whose anniversary or observance is celebrated on the air date. July's "Profile America" covers such items as creation of Medicare, Independence Day and "Be Nice to New Jersey Week."

Audio and text features for June are available online at the address below. They treat such topics as Father's Day, National Safety Month and National Cheese Week.

A companion program "Al Dia" is produced for Spanish-language stations. Copies of these programs are available by calling (301) 763-2806 or by e-mailing your request to <rreed@census.gov>.

Photography

Summer begins on Saturday, June 21, which means it will be the longest day of the year -- with daylight ranging from 12 hours and eight minutes at the equator up to a full 24 hours at the Arctic Circle. For many, summer is a season of fun, which is over much too soon. You can find more facts about summertime America at the Census Bureau's Web site. Designed as a "one-stop shop" for broadcasters, the multimedia section contains digital, downloadable photo images, radio sound bites, streaming video and related data tables and information.
