Census 2000 Summary File 4 (SF4) — A total of 323 summary tables of social, economic and housing characteristics for up to 336 population groups: total population, 132 race groups, 78 American Indian and Alaska native categories (reflecting 39 individual tribes); 39 Hispanic or Latino groups and 86 ancestry groups. SF4 contains sample data for population and housing items such as language and ability to speak English; ancestry; educational attainment; number of rooms; heating fuel; value of home and monthly rent. To be released by state through September. (Scheduled for release on July 2: Colorado, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Utah.)


Non-Census

Facts for Features: Americans with Disabilities — Statistical information from the Census Bureau's demographic subject areas about people with disabilities released in connection with the 13th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Similar Facts for Features commemorate other events and holidays through the year. (Scheduled for release on July 14.)

American Housing Survey for Selected Metropolitan Areas in 2002 (Microdata) — Microdata for 13 metropolitan areas available through the Federal Electronic Research and Review Extraction Tool (FERRET) at <http://ferret.bls.census.gov/cgi-bing/ferret>. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of June 29.)

American Housing Survey for Selected Metro Areas in 2002 (Printed Reports) — First statistics from this survey for 13 metropolitan areas covering topics related to journey to work, e.g., travel time to work. Also, a wide variety of housing data, e.g., presence of air-conditioning. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of June 29.)

Supplemental Security Income and Its Noninstitutional Recipients: July 1997 and 1999 — Information about who receives SSI benefits, how much they receive and other demographic characteristics of the recipients. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of June 29.)

2002 Subcounty Population Estimates — First estimates since Census 2000 of the populations of cities, towns, villages and boroughs. Includes ranking for cities with populations of 100,000 or more; cities with 10,000 or more residents are ranked within their state. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of July 6.)

Estimates of State Populations by Age, Sex, Race and Hispanic Origin: July 1, 2002 — State-level estimates of people with these demographic characteristics. First such estimates at the state level since Census 2000. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of July 13.)

Current Population Survey Data Collection — On Aug. 17, Census Bureau field representatives will begin visiting randomly selected households in the Current Population Survey's monthly update of employment and yearly update of veterans data. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of July 13.)

2002 State and County Housing Unit Estimates — First update since Census 2000 of the nation's housing supply at the state and county levels. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of July 13.)

Moving to America - Moving to Homeownership: 1994-2002 — Data on homeownership by citizenship, race and ethnicity, region of birth and year of entry into the United States, from 1994 to 2002. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of July 13.)

2002 Population Estimates of U.S. Island Areas — First population estimates since Census 2000 for American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands and the U.S. Virgin Islands. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of July 20.)

2001 ZIP Business Patterns — Internet and CD-ROM tables with data on business activity for more than 39,000 ZIP Code areas nationwide; included are the number of establishments, employment and payroll. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of June 29.)

Traffic Safety for the Fourth of July Weekend — This video news release (VNR) uses Census Bureau data to illustrate the crowded conditions on the road and the decrease in the number of commuters who carpool. The VNR includes safety tips for holiday drivers, B-roll and statistical graphs. (Scheduled for release on July 1.)

Radio

The Profile America CD for July 2003 is in distribution. This series of 60-second features, one for each day of the month, is heard on more than 500 stations across the country, and around the world on Armed Forces Radio. Each feature is keyed to an event whose anniversary or observance is celebrated on the air date. July's "Profile America" includes the invention of air conditioning, National Ice Cream Day, the Great Texas Mosquito Festival and National Salad Week.

Audio and text features for June are still available online at the address below, including National Safety Month, National Cheese Week and the founding of Alcoholics Anonymous.

A companion program, "Al Dia," is produced for Spanish-language stations. Copies of these programs are available by calling (301) 763-2806 or e-mailing your request to <rreed@census.gov>.

Television

Traffic Safety for the Fourth of July Weekend — This video news release (VNR) uses Census Bureau data to illustrate the increase in automobiles on the road and the decrease in carpoolers. The VNR includes safety tips for holiday drivers, B-roll and graphics.

The VNR news package contains sound bites from Census Bureau Director Louis Kincannon, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Dr. Jeffrey Runge and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's chief scientist, Allan Williams.

Photography

Check out our "Featured Photos of the Month," to highlight Fourth of July holiday and summertime activities. It was on July 4, 1776, that the Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence, starting some 4 million people on the road to becoming a sovereign nation.
