Commercial Setting

Airshow China 2002 is the only international aerospace exhibition in China that is approved by the Chinese Central Government. The show features real-size object display, trade discussions, technical exchanges and flying display. So far, the show has been successfully held in Zhuhai three times, resulting in extensive influence throughout the world and thus establishing itself as an important platform of technical exchanges and economic cooperation between the Chinese and foreign aerospace communities. The fourth Airshow China will be held in Zhuhai, November 4-8, 2002, and will be the first aerospace exhibition held in China since its accession to World Trade Organization.

Market trends indicate that the transportation/shipping sector is one of the fastest growing sectors in the Chinese economy. Markets exist for specific types of ground support equipment, aircraft configured for cargo transport and helicopters configured for passenger transport (many of the cities in China, including Hong Kong, have heliports). Equipment sales have the potential to lead to follow-on sales of other products and services including parts, maintenance and training services, and other support services as well.

Mission Goals:

The goal of the Aerospace Executive Service at Airshow China 2002 is to facilitate an effective presence for small to medium-sized companies without incurring the major expenses associated with purchasing and staffing exhibition space. The Aerospace Executive Service enables U.S. aerospace companies to familiarize themselves with this important trade fair, to conduct market research, and to explore export opportunities through pre-screened meetings with potential partners. The Aerospace Executive Service also allows U.S. companies to have a presence at the show, providing them with an enhanced image and level of engagement, an office infrastructure environment, and the support of knowledgeable Commercial Service staff and personal assistants focused on furthering company-specific objectives. Access to China and other international markets and business partners is made possible through the Aerospace Executive Service in a manner, which cannot be matched by simply attending the show as a visitor.

Mission Scenario:

The maximum number of participants is six. U.S. Commercial Service trade specialists will recruit and counsel prospective participants for the Airshow China 2002 Aerospace Executive Service. Company information and literature will be forwarded by the companies to Commercial Service Guangzhou and distributed for familiarization to a contractor in advance, whereupon he/she will begin the partner search, management and logistical coordination of the program.

An Aerospace & Defense Team member will arrive in China prior to the show. Participants will arrive in China on their own schedule and will report to the Aerospace Executive Service program at the Airshow China 2002 show site in Zhuhai, China, on Monday, November 4th. At this time, they will be briefed by Commercial Service staff on program features, receive a country/regional briefing on market opportunities, and later begin their series of meetings (avg. three meetings per day for three days).

Company literature and promotional material will be shipped to Commercial Service Guangzhou or sent electronically. No exhibition or larger demonstration items are appropriate and will not be permitted. Commercial Service staff and the contractor will be available for information and assistance throughout the duration of Airshow China 2002 and an Aerospace & Defense Technology Team member will be on-site through November 8th.

Timetable:

Participants will arrive according to their own schedules, and will assemble at the Aerospace Executive Service Program headquarters at the Airshow China 2002 site on Monday, November 4th. The program will end at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, November 6th.

Airshow China 2002 Aerospace Executive Service participation promotion will be conducted by Commercial Service Guangzhou and by the Commercial Service Aerospace & Defense Technology Team members in domestic Commercial Service offices. Promotion/recruitment will include, but not be limited to, publication in domestic trade publications and association newsletters, mailings from internal mailing lists, Winfaxes to internal database aerospace clients and through posting on the International Trade Administration’s home page and in the Federal Register. Recruitment will close October 18, 2002.
