Mission Statement
CORPORATE EXECUTIVE OFFICE MISSION AT EXPOPHARM ‘00
Cologne, Germany, September 28 – October 1, 2000
Mission Description:
CS Düsseldorf will recruit and organize a U.S. exhibitor delegation to Expopharm’00. The event will be held September 28- October 1, 2000 in Cologne, Germany. Expopharm is the largest pharmaceutical, over the counter (OTC) products, and health supplements trade show in Europe. Expopharm is organized by the German Pharmaceutical Association, "Werbe- und Vertriebsgesellschaft Deutscher Apotheker mbH." The organizers of Expopharm are very interested in the presence of international exhibitors, and they support CS Dusseldorf’s efforts to organize a USA pavilion under the CEO program, in German called "USA Kontaktbörse." American manufacturers of pharmaceuticals, OTC products, and health supplements will be able to present their products on the exhibition floor of this large international trade show. For $2,500, a fraction of the regular cost of exhibiting, participants in this CEO program will receive a limited exhibition area, their own meeting space and a bilingual assistant.
Commercial Setting:
In general, the German commercial environment is favorable toward U.S. products and services. The most promising sectors among the drugs and pharmaceutical products for U.S. sales in Germany are: OTC products, nutritional supplements, cosmetics, and diagnostics. Other pharmaceutical products have to undergo a sometimes time and money consuming registration process.
Mission Goals:
The mission’s goal is to enable American small and medium-sized companies to exhibit their products/services at an international fair in Europe without having to incur the cost of buying a full booth space. This is particularly valuable because finding a German/European business partner is the only way to meet the access requirements of the European market.
Mission Scenario:
Exhibitors will spend four days at Expopharm’00 in Cologne, Germany. Cologne has a state-of-the-art exhibition center, and its location in one of the most densely populated regions with a strong emphasis in pharmaceuticals (Bayer, Henkel, etc.) makes it the ideal location for the presentation of American products in Europe.
Exhibitors/Participants will receive 4 days of exhibitor rights in the "USA Kontaktbörse" and a bilingual assistant for the duration of the show.
Timetable:
Event participants will arrive in Cologne, Germany on or about September 27, 2000. Four days of trade-show participation (including meetings arranged during the trade show) will be held September 28-October 1, 2000.
CS Dusseldorf has the principal recruitment responsibility. Event promotion will involve, but will not be limited to, the following venues: the U.S. Department of Commerce Export Assistance Centers and overseas offices, relevant trade associations, past CEO participants, and various in-house and purchased industry lists. The mission statement for the CEO at Expopharm’00 will also be listed in the Federal Register and on ITA’s Internet home page.
Recruitment will commence immediately and will close September 15.
Criteria for Selection:
communication of the company’s primary objectives to facilitate appropriate matching with potential business partners.
certification that the company’s products and/or services are manufactured or produced in the United States or if manufactured/produced outside of the United States, the product/service must be marketed under the name of a US firm and have US content representing at least 51 percent of the value of the finished good or service.
Any partisan political activities of an applicant, including political contributions, will be entirely irrelevant to the selection process.
