DEFENSE TRADE MISSION 2000
The Hague, The Netherlands & Brussels, Belgium
February 1-3, 2000

MISSION STATEMENT

To promote and support U.S. defense exports to the Netherlands and Belgium, and to identify potential business clients or partners for U.S. companies, particularly SME’s.

EVENT DESCRIPTION

US&FCS The Hague will recruit and organize a Defense Trade Mission from February 1-3, 2000. The trade mission will consist of a two-day program in The Hague, The Netherlands and a one-day program in Brussels, Belgium.

COMMERCIAL SETTING

The Dutch and Belgian defense markets provide good opportunities for U.S. companies. In a European market where defense budgets are being cut, for instance, the defense budget in Belgium is expected to increase by the end of 1999. Although the defense budget is declining in The Netherlands, the market is very receptive to U.S. defense commodities. In 1998, for example, the U.S. won over 34 percent of the Dutch defense contracts awarded to foreign organizations. The acquisition and replacement of a large number of material is expected to drive up industry activity and government procurement in both countries over the next five to ten years.

MISSION GOALS

The mission’s goals are:
