(Washington) - The Commerce Department's Bureau of Export Administration (BXA) will be co-sponsoring a Business Executives' Enforcement Team (BEET) town hall meeting in Portland, Ore., on September 25, 1998 with the National Association of Credit Management--Oregon. The meeting will be held at the Doubletree Hotel at Lloyd Center. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and the program begins at 8:00 a.m.
The BEET program is designed to help companies become better aware of their export control responsibility, to assist them in developing their own internal procedures for identifying suspicious transactions, and to build cooperative relationships between the U.S. exporting community and the principal U.S. export control agencies.
"Recent regulatory changes make it imperative that senior managers understand their responsibility for adhering to U.S. export control laws," said F. Amanda DeBusk, assistant secretary for Export Enforcement. "BEET town hall meetings are one of the best methods for industry to learn of such changes and to have their specific concerns addressed."
More than 4,000 business representatives have participated in this program. This year's meetings will feature senior officials from Commerce's Bureau of Export Administration's Export Enforcement, the Office of the Chief Counsel and the Bureau of the Census.
