Research Project: HIGH DENSITY BOVINE SNP GENOTYPING PANEL DEVELOPMENT

Location: Bovine Functional Genomics

Project Number: 1265-31000-098-02
Project Type: Specific Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jul 15, 2006
End Date: Jul 14, 2008

Objective:
The objective of this cooperative research project is to collaboratively develop a high density single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) assay for cattle (Custom Infinium Cattle Genotyping BeadChip). Illumina to provide reagents needed to genotype 4032 cattle or more using this assay.

Approach:
As many as 60,000 single nucleotide polymorphism genetic markers will be selected collaboratively to develop an assay for application to cattle. The assay will be made available as a commercial product. Illumina will provide to the Bovine Functional Genomics Laboratory (BFGL) reagents necessary to genotype 4032 cattle or more and the appropriate technical support. Genotypes will be used to implement whole-genome selection and high density quantitative trait locus mapping.
