Survey of Employer Businesses by Gender Ownership--1994

1994 Survey of Employer Businesses by Gender Ownership (also referred to the "Survey of Businesses") provides information on women-owned employer firms in 1994 for all nonfarm business sectors. Basic types of data relate to business formation, expansion plans, and credit experience. The survey also provides statistics for comparison to male-owned and equally-owned businesses. The survey includes all types of business formations such as sole proprietors, partnerships and all types of incorporated businesses, but excludes firms with no employees. Characteristic information and respondent profiles are available for major business sectors and limited size characteristics.

"Census Bureau Says Percent of Employer Businesses Owned by Women Continues to Increase"

Although smaller and younger, the percentage of women-owned firms with employees increased from 12 percent of all employer businesses established before 1980, to 18.5 percent of firms established between 1991 and 1994, according to a new national survey of businesses with employees by the Commerce Department's Census Bureau.
