Grants for environmental protection and improvement are available for municipalities, community organizations, not-for-profit organizations and individuals. Links on this page access eligibility and application information:
- Environmental Justice Community Impact Grant Program - Funding for projects that address exposure of communities to multiple environmental harms and risks.
- 2008 Central Catskill Park/Mountains Smart Growth Program - Solicitation of grant applications from towns, villages and not-for-profit corporations, located along the Route 28 corridor of the Central Catskill Mountains. Funds are available for capital improvements which protect the region's natural resources and accommodate economic growth by revitalizing existing village, hamlet and town centers.
- Landowner Incentive Program - a new and unique partnership between the DEC and private landowners to protect the habitat of at-risk species on private lands.
- Environmental Restoration Program - Provides municipalities with funding for environmental restoration projects.
- Brownfield Opportunity Areas Program - Provides municipalities and community based organizations with assistance to complete area-wide brownfields redevelopment planning.
- Technical Assistance Grants - Provides assistance to eligible community groups to increase public awareness and understanding of remedial activities taking place at significant threat sites in the Brownfield Cleanup Program and Class 2 sites on the New York State Registry of Inactive Hazardous Waste Disposal Sites.
- Solid Waste Municipal Landfill Closure Projects - Provides assistance to eligible municipalities to help pay for municipal landfill closure projects.

The Hudson River Estuary Grants Program - Provides municipalities and not-for-profit corporations with assistance conserving natural resources, promoting use and enjoyment of the river and cleaning up pollution.

Water Quality Improvement Projects - Applications are available for: Water Quality Improvement Projects and Dam Safety Projects.
- Aquatic Invasive Species Eradication Grant Program - Provides funds to municipalities and not-for-profit corporations for projects to eliminate infestations of aquatic invasive species from water bodies throughout New York State.

Terrestrial Invasive Species Eradication Grant Program - Provides funds to state agencies, municipalities and not-for-profit corporations for projects to kill and/or permanently remove plants or animals that meet the definition of terrestrial invasive within the boundaries of New York State. Applications must be postmarked no later than October 31, 2008.

Municipal Waste Reduction, Recycling and Household Hazardous Waste Programs - Provides municipalities with funding for projects that enhance municipal recycling infrastructure through purchasing of equipment or construction of facilities.

The Volunteer Fire Assistance Grant program - Funding for rural fire companies for the purchase of small equipment such as portable backpack pumps, Nomex protective clothing, hand tools, hard hats, small diameter hose, portable radios and dry hydrants.

The Great Lakes Protection Fund - Funding for regional and statewide research projects aimed at protecting and conserving the health of the Great Lakes ecosystem in New York State.

Urban Forestry Grants - Provides municipalities with funding for community forestry related projects.
