Ladies and Gentlemen:
We would like to thank all of the instructors, overhead and students for your support and assistance in making the 11th annual New York Wildfire and Incident Management Academy a tremendous success.
The New York Wildfire and Incident Management Academy (NYWIMA) ran from October 24, 2008 through November 2, 2008 at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) and at Suffolk County's Fire Rescue and Emergency Services offices in Yaphank. Over the eleven years the Academy has existed it has provided training to over 4,900 firefighters and emergency response personnel.
The 2008 Academy had as its cornerstone classes focusing on prescribed fire management, wildland firefighting and incident management training. This year marked the second year that the Academy ran an Incident Management Team Workshop designed specifically to train local Incident Management Team members who will be tasked with managing various emergency response efforts. The Academy also continued its major expansion of its hand-on training approach which saw 34 individuals receive training as part of the Academy's Incident Management Team.
Over the years, your enthusiasm and cooperation contributed to the learning experience and networking opportunities enjoyed by all who attended past academies. We look forward to hearing from you in the future as well as to seeing you at the 2009 Academy.
