MARC's Public Safety Program

The public safety program at MARC coordinates regional activities in the areas of public safety and communications interoperability. These activities include:

  • Training and professional development courses for public safety personnel
  • Administration of the regional 9-1-1 system and network
  • Public safety outreach and education
  • Communications interoperability coordination
  • Geographic information systems coordination

9-1-1 Day at the Ballpark August 30

This year, area 9-1-1 telecommunicators and their families are invited to CommunityAmerica Ballpark on August 30 for 9-1-1 Day at the Ballpark. The event will coincide with the T-Bones annual "Heroes Night" and will feature a buffet for 9-1-1 dispatchers and their families as well as fireworks and public safety vehicle displays. Full story>

Wireless Accuracy Testing Occurring Across MARC Region

MARC maintenance technicians have begun the wireless accuracy testing program, which is an objective of the regional Public Safety Strategic Plan.  The goal of the testing is to ensure that the geographic location provided on 67% of all wireless calls made in the region are within 100 meters of the caller’s actual physical location, and 95% of wireless calls are within 300 meters. Movement in Missouri on Wireless 9-1-1 Funding

Three bills have been introduced in the Missouri legislature concerning the issue of funding 9-1-1 through new revenue streams. The most promising of these is House Bill 1712. The bill allows counties to implement a sales tax, with voter approval, on communication devices. Full story>

The 2008 Professional Development Series will focus on skills that will help managers and supervisors develop better relationships with colleagues and advance their agencies. The Professional Development Series is ideal for PSAP managers, police chiefs, fire chiefs, emergency managers, supervisors and administrators.
