Emergency Management Communication Plan

The following "Key Bullets" are procedures for communication with each other, the Department, the media and the public during an emergency event.

National / Local Media

In the event of an emergency situation, how we communicate with each other, with the Department, with the media, and with the public will be critical.

If a location receives calls from the media regarding an emergency situation, the media should be referred to Ms. Sandy Miller Hays, Director, Information Staff.

When a location receives a call from the media, the person at the location who receives the call should call Ms. Miller Hays immediately to let her know that the media has called.  Ms. Miller Hays can be reached on 301-504-1636 (work); 301-773-0215 (home); or 240-478-7601 (personal cell phone).

Location personnel should be prepared to provide information on what is happening at the location and what media has contacted them.  Depending on the situation, the location might be told to call the media back after discussions with Ms. Miller Hays or she may decide to call them herself.  Each call/situation will be handled on a case-by-case basis.  In the event that Ms. Miller Hays is not available, Mr. Sean Adams, Chief, ARS-IS Current Information Branch should be called.  Mr. Adams can be reached on 301-504-1622 (work); 703-777-3886 (home); or 540-454-0422 (personal cell phone).
